    what the…? did you delete that other post? the Herb Alpert one?

    anyhow, my guess as to why it’s not named the Randy Newman School of Music (as apropos as that would have been):

    Randy Newman didn’t pony up $30 million.

    Too bad – Randy Newman would motivate me a whole lot more than Herb… I mean, just the name of the school like that would’ve caught at least some students’ attention.

    As for this one – I first thought it just an optical illusion. Pretty bizarre!

    Actually, yeah, I did delete the Herb Alpert post because I had forgotten that Alpert founded A&M Records which–while not my favorite label–nevertheless had some cool acts signed to it, like The Police and Sting, Joe Cocker, Procul Harum, Oingo Boingo, Joe Jackson …

    I still prefer the Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt lineup, but …

    Yeah, I belatedly saw the article I linked to (kinda sad) mentioning his A&M co-founding and felt it was easier to delete it than dilute my curmudgeon’s premise.
